Elizabeth Penney is an author, entrepreneur, and local food advocate living in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. In addition to writing full-time, she operates a micro soap business and a small farm. Elements that often appear in her novels include vintage summer cottages, past/present mysteries, and the arts. She is represented by the fabulous Elizabeth Bewley at Sterling Lord Literistic.
Elizabeth's writing credits include over twenty mysteries, short stories, and hundreds of business articles. A former consultant and nonprofit executive, she holds a BS and an MBA. She's also written screenplays with her musician husband.
She loves walking in the woods, kayaking on quiet ponds, trying new recipes, and feeding family and friends. Oh, and pampering four hens and a very spoiled cat.
Young Adult Novels
LAST SUMMER IN EDEN is a YA historical romance in the vein of A NORTHERN LIGHT, BRIGHT YOUNG THINGS, and OUT OF THE EASY.
A young singer raised in a resort town must choose between a scholarship from an anti-Semitic patron and the Jewish boy she loves.
It’s 1929, and Dorothy, 17, is a member of the invisible class—those serving wealthy visitors to Bethlehem, NH, a lively mountain resort with thirty hotels. Her mother cleans houses and her father owns an ice harvesting business, failing due to the ascent of electric refrigeration. Watching from the sidelines, Dorothy longs to participate in the resort’s raucous Jazz Age fun.
Her parents’ backward views also stifle Dorothy’s dreams of a singing career--until Lexie, a NY socialite and budding playwright, discovers her remarkable talent. Offered the lead in a one-act romantic farce scheduled for the summer showcase, Dorothy finds herself acting opposite the hotel owner’s son who broke her heart. But while fending off his advances, she meets David, a handsome Orthodox Jew. Sparks fly – and then the anti-Semitism lingering below the glitzy surface of Bethlehem surfaces. When a bigoted patron offers Dorothy a plum private school scholarship, she is pressured to break things off with David. Torn between her art and a true, tender love, will Dorothy obey society's dictates or forge her own path?
My first entry in this new series from Guideposts features Priscilla Latham Grant, who inherited a lighthouse on Martha's Vineyard. She helps both with dangerous situations they're facing—and helps them find what they both seek: family and a port in the storm.

Deadly Prospect, Antique Shop Mysteries
I loved writing this book, which is set on an island off Maine. Maggie and her friends have the task of cleaning out an old summer cottage while finding missing art and discovering what really happened to an artist who disappeared in the 1920s. My cat Noah made an appearance--and the cover.
Six Feet Undertow, Antique Shop Mysteries
This second outing of mine in this series features a treasure-hunting reality show coming to Somerset Harbor. The ship they want to raise? And can she find out who killed the reality show host.
